NOW PLAYING: Denver Children's Theatre presents THE SNOW QUEEN - thru 5/13

The public will get its first glimpse of the 410-seat theatre Elaine Wolf Theatre at Mizel Arts & Culture Center (MACC) as the Denver Children's Theatre opens this brand new theatre with THE SNOW QUEEN playing now through May 13th. The Snow Queen ruled her kingdom with a heart of ice. Her magic waned when her enchanted mirror was shattered and shards rained down to earth. Each piece was infused with the vanity of the Snow Queen and had the power to make people see only the cold, darkness of the world. When Gerda’s eccentric friend, Cei, gets a shard from the mirror lodged in his eye, the Snow Queen targets Cei to rebuild her mirror so she can destroy the other seasons and freeze the hearts of all living things to rule over a world of snow and ice. Against the odds, Gerda is determined to save him and begins a journey to restore the seasons and defeat the Snow Queen. Along the way she meets a bevy of magical, fantastic and heart-warming characters.

The multiple award-winning directing tandem of StEve Wilson (also MACC executive artistic director) and Billie McBride has assembled an all-star cast which includes adult actors Misha Johnson (Gerta), Michael Bouchard (Cei/ Prince Frederick), Miriam Tobin (Snow Queen), Brian Landis Folkins (Mr. Overskou/ JJ/ Bae, a magic reindeer), Edith Weiss (Mrs. Fyn/ Mrs. Dear/ Robber Mother), Mare Trevathan (Grandma/ Bindweed, a flower/ Lily/ Robber Girl) and Missy Moore (Elisa/ Snowdrop, a flower/ Princess Fredrica). "This is an unbelievably talented group of actors.  It will be worth the price of admission to watch the stupendous versatility of these acting veterans strut their stuff!." says co-director Billie McBride.

"This will be the first opportunity for our audiences to see the $2.5 million renovation of our theatre.  Thanks to the unsurpassed generosity of Elaine [Wolf] MACC will offer one of the most elegant theatrical venues in the region," emphasized StEve Wilson. "We are ecstatic that the first theatrical production will be this epic Hans Christian Andersen tale from our children's theatre program which is focused on engaging and enlightening our audiences of the future."

With a magnificently elegant façade and an equally resplendent interior, not to mention state of the art audio visual equipment, expanded seating in a new mezzanine level and easy access for disabled patrons, the Elaine Wolf Theatre will be one of the most prominent performance venues in the Denver metro area. Especially unique to the theatre is the handicap-accessible center row which features the best seating in the house and can be reached through an entrance specifically designed for easiest access. An elevator to the brand new mezzanine level will also allow for additional prime accessible seating on the second floor.

For performances spanning more than 15 years, the DCT has won kudos galore, including the 2009 Henry Award for Outstanding Children’s Theatre, the Colorado equivalent of a Tony Award.

Michael Mulhern has lived in Denver and been active in it's theater scene for over 10 years. He is originally from Wiesbaden, Germany and graduated with a BFA in Theater Performance from the University of Wisconsin-Superior.
