NOW PLAYING: Boulder's Dinner Theatre presents THE DROWSY CHAPERONE - thru 9/1

The roaring 20s come screaming back to life when the hilarious comedy THE DROWSY CHAPERONE makes its regional debut at Boulder's Dinner Theatre (BDT) playing now throught September 1st. Winner of 5 Tony Awards and 7 Drama Desk awards including "Outstanding Musical," this hilarious show-within-a-show begins when a die-hard musical comedy fan dusts off his favorite cast album, a (fictional) 1928 smash hit called The Drowsy Chaperone. The musical magically bursts to life right in his tenement apartment and the audience is instantly immersed in the glamorous, comical tale of a celebrity bride and her uproarious wedding day. THE DROWSY CHAPERONE is hailed as one of the wittiest, craziest shows ever to hit Broadway. Playing through May 13, this show is destined to be a runaway hit!

BDT artistic director Michael J. Duran (who is not only directing this show, but also bringing back his Broadway roots and taking his place on stage) declares this show is over the top! "You name it, it's in there - a sensational starlet, nefarious producer, a couple of half-baked gangsters....this show will have the audience rolling on its side with laughter."

THE DROWSY CHAPERONE depicts with much affection every stereotype from Prohibition-era Broadway. Meet the glamorous showgirl [Katie Ulrich] who is giving up the stage for love and marriage; her debonair and former toothpaste model fiancé [Brian Jackson]; the world-weary and scene-stealing chaperone [Alicia Dunfee]; the nervous best man [Matthew D. Peters]; a dotty dowager [Cindy Lawrence] who owns the estate where the wedding is to take place; the dowager's sardonic servant [Bob Hoppe]; the scheming producer [Scott Beyette] who doesn't want to lose his star; and the dizzy chorine [Joanie Brosseau] who'd like to replace the star, but is mostly just the producer's gal Friday. And indeed a Latin lover [Seth Caikowski], a pair of gangsters posing as pastry chefs [Michael J. Duran and Wayne Kennedy], and an aviatrix [Heather Doris] are milling about to add to the fun.
