Afterthought Theatre’s production of the Broadway Hit Musical ANNIE (Music by Charles Strouse, Lyrics by Martin Charnin and Book by Thomas Meehan) playing at the Cleo Parker Robinson Dance Theatre now through August 26th, challenges the notion of “type” in every way with their fresh new take on the classic American tale.
An orphan, Annie, and her dog Sandy are placed in the lap of luxury for a week as a part of a publicity campaign for billionaire Oliver Warbucks. However, Annie's stay turns out to be much more than anyone had bargained for as she works her way into everyone's hearts and learns a few things for herself. This traditional rendition of the delightful family musical will be presented with a bit of an urban twist!
Director Hugo Sayles says, "Annie represents the love that we have in our lives but sometimes we don’t recognize it because it’s too close."
Aaliyah Shambe stars as Annie and the outstanding supporting cast includes Mary Louise Lee as Grace Farrell, Leonard E Barrett Jr. as Oliver “Daddy” Warbucks, Ghandia Johnson as Miss Hannigan, Joseph Graves as Rooster Hannigan and Ilasiea Gray as Lily St. Regis.
After a successful run on Broadway and a Motion Picture, this musical has stayed cemented in the hearts of those little one’s over generations chiming out notes from musical favorites such as “Tomorrow,” “Hard Knock Life,” “Maybe” and “I Don’t Need Anything But You.”
