Denver Center Theatre Company Announces 2013 COLORADO NEW PLAY SUMMIT Lineup

The Denver Center Theatre Company (DCTC) has made its final selections for the 8th Annual Colorado New Play Summit. With a stunning representation of today's playwrights, presenting shows covering topics as diverse as the effects of immigration status on assimilation, a modern take on Homer's Odyssey, and a bawdy comedy about a man dragged into a drag act, these plays by some of America's top new writers demonstrate the DCTC's commitment to new works and solidify its position as one of the nation's top tier new play festivals. The Most Deserving by Edgerton New Play Award-winner Catherine Trieschmann, The Legend of Georgia McBride by rising star Matthew Lopez, The Vast In-Between by Chicago Jeff Award-winner Laura Eason, internationally-produced Karen Zacarías' Just Like Us (based on the best-seller by Helen Thorpe), and Black Odyssey by multiple award winning poet/playwright Marcus Gardley, are confirmed for the 2013 Colorado New Play Summit, which will take place in downtown Denver February 8 - 10, 2013.

Members of the public are invited to join with artistic directors, literary managers, dramaturgs, directors, and media representatives, who travel from across the country to view the latest works by both well-established and exciting new voices in American theatre. The Colorado New Play Summit is the showcase for the Denver Center Theatre Company's new play development program, now in its 8th year under the direction of Artistic Director Kent Thompson and Director of New Play Development Bruce K. Sevy. The stature of the Summit has grown in recent years and is receiving consistent recognition as one the nation's leading new play festivals. Full Summit passes, which include guaranteed seating at all readings, admission to two world premieres, plus meals, receptions, and discounts to nearby downtown Denver hotels, are now available. Tickets to individual readings will be available in early January.

In addition to works-in-progress, Summit audiences will see two hits from the 2012 Summit, now receiving full main stage productions. Ed, Downloaded, written by rising star playwright Michael Mitnick, is an arresting comic drama, equal parts live action and feature film, telling the story of a dying man given immortality by downloading his brain – and the survivors who fight over which memories he chooses to save. Audiences will also see Grace, or The Art of Climbing by Lauren Feldman, a captivating tale of a young women struggling with doubt as she trains mind, body, and spirit for a world rock climbing competition. The Summit also includes the popular Playwrights' Slam, a late night gathering where invited playwrights read excerpts from their latest in-progress works.

For more information and Summit registration, patrons can visit www.denvercenter.org/summit or call 303.893.6030.

Artistic Director Kent Thompson, Director of New Play Development Bruce K. Sevy, and Literary Manager Douglas Langworthy have confirmed the following new works to present in 2013:
