Welcome to Happy Burger! Avenue Theater presents the regional premiere of MINIMUM WAGE playing now through August 3rd. This funny fast food a Capella musical features the zany antics of the Burger Boys and Girl who are training the newest Happy Burger employees in the audience. The rock a Capella comedy was created and written by Colorado-born playwrights, performers, comic book geeks, and brothers Charlie and Jeff LaGreca and Sean Altman who, as part of Rockapella performed the theme song to "Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego."
What can I say about this show besides I FREAKING LOVED IT!!!! Even as I write this review, I am tapping my foot, and humming the theme song in my head! I was simply amazed by fierce talents of this cast featuring Michael Bouchard, Keegan C. Flaugh, Damon Guerrasio, Abby McInerney, and Carter EdWard Smith who not only brought out the funny in every live and moment, but were also fabulous singers. I also have to applaud them for having such wonderful harmonies and blending for an accapella group that just formed a couple months ago and sound like they have been performing together for years. This show is full of great audience interaction which they just ate up! One thing I would have changed had to do with marketing - I would have handed out those tacky paper hats or hairnets (you can buy those in bulk for cheap) to really put the audience in the mood. From Alliteration, to amazing voices the true hero of the evening was the comedy and just fun story that had the entire audience member doubled over in laughter. Fabulous moments included Hotter then Hell, Shake Your Booty with Danger (which featured the incredible pipes of Abby McInerney), Take my Life by the Balls, and the LOL hilarious Edgar Allen Po-tato (that put the spotlight on the oh so funny Michel Bouchard). Director Nick Sugar had a lot of fun with this show from the talent; to the simple, yet colorful set; to the excellent staging; and making sure to hit every funny moment to the delight of the audience. Nick and the rest of the creative team should be praised for cultivating such an enjoyable and hilarious evening of theater!
This fun-filled, funny-filled show is perfect for a group of friends, a couple on a date or even if you just want to laugh your ass off! Don't miss this hilarious, yet wonderfully sung show! MINIMUM WAGE is delighting audiences now through August 3rd. Performances are Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30pm (with a special performance on Thursday, Aug. 1st) at the Avenue Theater located at 417 E. 17th Ave., Denver, CO 80203.
